I had to leave the house today at 6 a.m. in order to drive to Casper and make my 8:15 appointment. What was I thinking???
At a rest stop half way there…..hey 3 cups of coffee chugged down by 7 am does that to me, I saw this big boy.
I arrived right on time to my appointment. After I whined sufficiently, they proceeded to insert my new orthotics (not to be mistaken for orthodontics) into my running shoes. Ahh, this is going to be good. I was warned to gradually get used to them 2 hrs the first day, 3 the next, etc. I was also warned that because I will be using new muscles (versus not using any muscles in the last 2 months) my knees or hips or possibly other muscles might get sore.
I told the Dr. “if this means I can run again…..
This is what the babies that cost my entire life savings look like:
After we discussed how to gradually get used to these in my shoes, you know I asked how long till I run. (Luckily PH wasn’t there with me). He said I will come back in three weeks and then we’ll play it by ear. I don’t know about his ear, but mine will be playing in about 3 weeks.
I know that I sound very tough, but actually I will be careful as I never want to repeat this again and I’ve heard a lot of horror stories of months or years of recovery. I also have some recommendations for running shoe types (Yes, I have an excuse to buy MORE shoes)!
Tomorrow the five of us will be heading 7 hours away to a cabin in Montana. It should be great. Lots of places for the dogs to run and for us to relax. No internet or cable tv. AAAAARRRRGGGGGG !!! We will definitely make one stop on the way – we need to purchase some bear spray!
I’ll be in touch when I can – I may go into withdrawal and have to drive to a coffee shop somewhere that has WiFi!
Have a wonderful day.
