The Heat, My Feet, and Coming to Terms on Running

And the heat continues.  I’ve noticed that it is occurring all over the country so I’ll try not to complain.  We are also getting some smoke from various fires which causes amazing colors in our sunrises.

I know that a Mom always thinks her babies are beautiful, but is it just me or is Jake one of the goofiest dogs you’ve ever seen?

But I guess that’s why I love him – oh and he’s a great snuggler.
I believe Luna is pouting….

After work today it was time for my hair appointment.  If you have a salon that you go to on a regular basis, you know that it is time you look forward to.  Not just the awesome feeling of getting your hair washed but its time to get caught up on all kinds of information!

As we started catching up, Heather asked me how my summer had been so far.  I told her I hadn’t run in 2 months and her response was ‘that’s ok’.  I’m not sure why but that made me immediately start thinking.  She didnt say “oh, that’s terrible” or discuss how soon I could be back running.  Just “That’s ok”.  And she is so right!  Have I been failing to enjoy my summer because I can’t run?

She wanted to know if I was picking a race for 2017.  That way I know I will be back in the swing of things next year, but now enjoy the fact that I’m not in “training”.  She reminded me that I have been in training almost constantly for the last 2 years.  So instead of fussing about what I can’t do – relax.  Maybe my feet were trying to tell me something!

I don’t know why I do this to myself.  I get all hung up on something – maybe to prove something to myself (or am I proving something to others) .  Instead I will enjoy this time and then enjoy the running time when it is back again.

So lets all concentrate on what is really important.   I love to run.  I love to run 1/2 marathons.  I will not stop being a runner just because I am taking a health break.  People will not think less of me.  I don’t need to ‘prove’ anything.  I’m not sure why it took me this long to realize it!

And I thought it was just a bad pair of shoes….

Its Friday!!!!!!  Have a great day.
