From the West Coast to the East Coast For My Moment of Fame

It was a busy but super fun week last week. The week started when I had to catch an early Airport shuttle. I was heading to North Carolina courtesy of Blackfin and Discovery TV!

Yep I went for the filming of a TV show about a cold case I had (back in my Detective days) that resulted in solving 3 homicides/kidnappings and putting the suspect on death row. It certainly has become my most famous case.

I made it to Chicago before I bought Finn a gift. :)

Approaching Asheville I was welcomed by this beautiful sunset.

After landing, getting my car, and settling into my hotel room, I saw a wonderful sight out my window.

Yes, a Waffle House. If you've ever lived in the south, you will understand the importance. It helped me overcome the shock of trying to breathe in the 96% humidity.

The following morning I decided to go for a run. Across the street was an outlet mall. Three 1-mile laps around and I was done. Pavement and parking spaces aren't the prettiest scenery.... but it worked.

I have a random question. Have you ever seen these pictures, or is it my imagination that every hotel room has the same ones?

Later that afternoon, I showed up for my filming. Yes, I was incredibly nervous.

But 2-1/2 hours later I was done. After cut and paste - maybe 10 minutes on the actual show? The show won't air till 2020. The only thing I know is that it will be on ID (Investigation Discovery) TV.

Then with that pressure off my shoulders, I had 2-1/2 days to visit with friends and my son, Nick. But first..... I really needed new cowboy boots. I know you think I would find better deals out west. But there is a store in Asheville that has the best selection of any store I've seen out west.

It wasn't an easy decision. But aren't these pretty?

And they feel so good and work perfectly, too. I might have spent a lot of money, so

it's important that they are more than pretty. :)

A trip to Asheville would not be complete without driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a bit.

I was very happy to be able to see so many of my old friends; including my former co-workers at the Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's office. I spent as much time as I could with my lifelong best friend, Marcia.

I also got to spend some time with my son, Nick, at his home. We had so many good conversations sitting on his deck. I miss that. His place is like a little piece of heaven.

Every evening all the critters came out to visit us.

Yes these are his pets joining us on the porch.

By the way, he rents this out on Airbnb if you want to visit Asheville. (I don't think he'll mind the free advertising)

I got home late Friday night. I got up Saturday and ran 3 miles. I knew I was too tired to do my long run. The time change really hit me this time as well as the 18 hours traveling. I slept 10 hours on Saturday night! It's not because I'm old, right?

With that much sleep I had no excuse and Sunday morning was an 8 mile run. Of course I took time to get pictures so you can see what I see and not have to run even a minute.

This slide looks like it knocked her socks off!

This cute guy.

It's early but the fishing boat is coming in.

When the tide is out, so are the people hunting clams.

What's going on with Finn, you ask?

Well, funny you should ask. I might have some pics here.....

He has decided he likes carrot sticks

Here he is modeling a new backpack for school. Note the hand on his hip.

Another trip to the beach. I'm not sure who has the most fun....

And finally...... when the Binkie has become permanently lost, it's always good to have a good friend for comfort.

Make it a wonderful day.

One step at a time,
