YES, I AM BACK FROM PARADISE
Although the pre-flight COVID and health paperwork was crazy.......it was also soo worth it. 5-1/2 hours from Portland and this was my view of the island of Hawaii. Also known as "the big island".
Our first stay was an airbnb in Kailua-Kona. And this was our deck view. This was the first time 'never leaving' came to mind.
Even Madeline loved sitting and watching the ocean, the birds, and the surfers.
This was the resident cat. We gave him a different name every time we saw him. (Think: Boots, Mittens, Felix, Whiskers, Franklin, coco, ...you get the idea.)
This was her preferred way to sit.
Our first day was a snorkeling trip to swim with the dolphins. Although you are not allowed to touch them, they come so close that you could have!
One of the areas we snorkeled was near Kona. This is also where the Ironman competition takes place and I could see the athletes training in the bay.
And of course they were riding bikes and running too. And because I ran on the same road as they did.....well you could say I was training with the Ironman competitors.
Another day our whole group went deep sea fishing. It was a long day for these two. And it was really too hot and sunny out on the deck for them.
Unfortunately there were no fish brought on deck either. So here is my son, Nick, posing with the catch of the day.
Gotta stick one of my sunset pictures in ....
Chameleons in Hawaii look different than the ones I'm used to... and, yes, that is real.
If I ever have a boat, I think I will have to name it the same as this one.
During my visit, I posted a question on Facebook to ask if anyone could come up with a good reason why I shouldn't sell everything and move to Hawaii. Although the question was tongue-in-cheek, some people took it very seriously. But my take-away from the answers is this: People who had even the slightest inkling that now they might come visit me, told me to "Go for it!" (You know who your are). :)
A trip to one of the many Farmer's markets was always fun.
Finn was especially excited over his magnetic lizard.
One evening's entertainment was who could crack open a coconut without any tools. Flashbacks to Castaway.....
And now you need a break from "What I did on my summer vacation". Plus I am studying for my Private Investigator License. More on that later.
Have a wonderful evening and stay tuned to Part II.
One step at a time,
